Ruby Slippers

by Matt Magill

I wrote this track in response to the devastation in Oklahoma in the wake of the May, 2013 Tornadoes. All proceeds from the sale of this song will go to disaster relief. Thanks for listening - Matt

Ruby Slippers

We opened up the cellar door to rubble
And heard the screams from miles around
Busted wood, bricks, bones and bodies were all we found

I do not know just what you’ve seen in movies
That twister took the girl out of her grey
But with the click of her heels she could wish it all away

But I ain’t got no ruby slippers
I damn sure ain’t got oz
But I am not alone when all is lost
My proof hung on the cross

Well I read where Jesus calmed the storm
But God only knows where my good book has gone
There’s grace I know but all this damned destruction goes on and on

It’s said that by folks that home is where the heart is
But what do brokenhearted people do when with no roof above us
"There's no place like home" don't ring so true

I can’t see over no rainbow
Damn sure can’t see oz
But I am not alone when all is lost
My proof hung on the cross
